Passion for ophthalmology
Mr Giampaolo Gini works as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust, my main private practice at the Nuffield Hospital in Haywards Heath, as well as other secondary locations throughout Sussex.
I am passionate about ophthalmology, eye surgery and patient care. I can only consider myself satisfied when I can honestly say that I have given a patient the very best result achievable with his or her condition.
Surgical experience
I have vast surgical experience. I have performed over 30 000 surgeries. I have been asked to perform surgery to show his techniques in 15 different countries and currently operate on a regular basis in Italy, Switzerland and the UK.
Recognition
I have received both national and international recognition for my skill and contributions to the field of ophthalmology. Among my many accolades are the Royal College's Treacher Collins Award, the American Society of Retina Specialists' Reiss-Buckler Award (twice) and the Italian Ophthalmological Society's Award (twice).
As an educator, I have served as a Faculty Member with the European Vitreoretinal Training School (Bremen) contributing to the training of over 1000 surgeons coming from all parts of the World and have lectured in over 40 Countries.
I am currently President of the European Vitreoretinal Society (EVRS), Liaison Officer in Europe for the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) and Board Member and Scientific Advisor for the Italian Association of Ophthalmologists (AIMO).
